Dr T. E. Sanders, MA (Oxon) D.Clin.Psy. graduated with First Class Honours from the University of Oxford in Philosophy and Psychology. While at Oxford University in 2010 Tom commenced his studies with Dr James Wilk in the ideas and theories behind Minimalist Intervention.
Buoyed by his theoretical learnings, and with an appetite to explore therapeutic applications in helping others find relief from their complex problems, Tom pursued a career in Clinical Psychology. He qualified professionally to practice with a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the University of Hertfordshire in 2017.
By that time, under Dr Wilk’s continuing guidance, Tom was thoroughly versed in the scientific literature key to Minimalist Intervention as it applies to psychological and behavioral change, and he has continued his studies in the theory and practice of change.
In his clinical practice with individuals, groups and institutions Tom has elaborated his understanding of the change process, assimilating along the way his first-hand experiences of dramatic moments of change witnessed in the consulting room and in organizations.
Tom currently holds the position of Principal Clinical Psychologist, NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde (NHS GGC), based in the city of Glasgow, Scotland. He works with individuals, groups and organizations to improve the lives of adults experiencing chronic and severe mental illness.
Tom provides clinical supervision and teaching to trainees on the Doctorate in Clinical Psychology Program at the University of Glasgow, one of the top universities in the world, with a long and distinguished international reputation for innovation in the psychiatric field.
His scientific research is based both at NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde in the Psychology Research Group, and at Interchange Research. Tom considers himself to be as much a Philosopher-Practitioner as a Scientist-Practitioner, seeking to research, understand and make a difference at multiple levels—as evidenced not least by his leadership in past and ongoing Quality Improvement (QI) projects within NHS GGC.
Despite his erudition, Tom wears his learning lightly. He is known for his trademark soft-spoken, unassuming, steady and down-to-earth manner. Tom is in every way true to his rural, north-country roots, adopting a keep-it-simple approach, which has found its place as much within his professional practice as on the rugby pitch as team-member and captain and in his passion for outdoor pursuits.
